Is your body feeling exhausted, but your mind is racing and won’t shut down? Do this…

Today, I wanted to give you a technique that helps you to relax, be calm and even helps you to sleep. So, it’s a relaxation technique as well as helping you to overcome insomnia, in fact. It is helpful when you are very tired, even feeling exhausted in your body, but your mind won’t shut up, just won’t shut down, just will not let you rest, keeps thinking about all the things you have got to do. If you are perhaps stressed, or anxious, overwhelmed, this really helps you.

 

Actually, it’s a bit of a lost cause if you are feeling exhausted in your body, but your mind is racing and won’t stop. If you try to sleep, you’ve probably found that you don’t get a good night’s sleep at all. The mind just won’t shut down.

 

Really, instead of trying to sleep, do this little technique – this breathing technique. It’s very, very easy to do, but very effective.

 

Take your right thumb and press it against your right nostril, so that you are blocking it. While you keep your thumb against your nostril, breath in and out through the left nostril. Inhale for four and exhale for six.

 

Why do you do that?

If your exhale is longer than your inhale, this has a calming effect on your body. If you want to sleep, lie down in bed, on your right side. Press your right thumb against your right nostril. Breath in your left nostril for four, and exhale for six. Continue for as long as is needed.

 

Why does this work?

Breathing through the left nostril activates the right hemisphere of the brain, which is the calming side, your calming, creative, image-oriented side of the brain. The left hemisphere is the analytical, logical, more word-oriented hemisphere.

 

So, this is why it works. You are activating the right hemisphere of your brain to calm you down. Your brain will calm down and allow you to relax, to overcome your overwhelm, or to sleep.
